Dani Finnegan

Hi, I am Dani Finnegan, a Media Production student at Nottingham Trent University. Through my degree, I have had the opportunity to work on projects with real clients such as DHP Lawrences, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, NET Tram, and Harmless. These experiences have helped me develop practical industry skills, from responding to professional briefs to working within strict deadlines. The course is highly collaborative, which has taught me to work with diverse people, communicate ideas effectively, and adapt to different working styles. These opportunities have helped prepare me for working within the creative industry after university.
My major project is a documentary that explores the idea that twins, even though they may look alike, often have completely different personalities and identities. As a twin myself, I have always been interested in how people see twins as the same, when in reality we experience the world in very individual ways. Through this film, I wanted to show what it actually feels like to grow up as a twin.
To explore this, I used a combination of archive footage and interviews. The archive footage shows moments from our childhood and helps illustrate how our relationship has developed over time. I also interviewed members of my family, including my parents, my gran, my twin, and my brother, to share different perspectives on what it is like living with twins. In addition, I interviewed two other sets of twins, a boy and girl pair and a set of twin boys, to show how each twin relationship is unique. I also spoke to a psychologist who specialises in twins to help explain the differences in personality and identity.
Through these different voices and experiences, my documentary aims to show that being a twin is more complex than simply looking the same. I want viewers to understand the individuality within twin relationships and gain a deeper insight into what it feels like to grow up as a twin.
A short preview clip is available alongside this statement, giving you an early glimpse of what the documentary will look and feel like.
